Roy Lichtenstein was one the most important pop artists of 1960s. His paintings included hidden images cartoon characters in them. Allan Kaprow, Rutgers University’s art professor, encouraged Lichtenstein's incorporation of proto-pop iconography to his paintings. His pop period began in 1961 and lasted until 1965.
